EveryChild Moldova in collaboration with Cahul local public authorities develops and offers for dissemination a model of reorganization of a residential institution that views the child as a personality and respect his/her right to grow up in a family environment.
This activity started in 2007 and is implemented within the two projects: “Reorganization of the Cahul boarding school” and “Supporting boarding school care leavers in social integration process”.

The Project Goal is to reorganise Cahul residential school into a complex of community-based services (temporary placement centre, day care services, social apartments) that will have provided social and family type care for children permanently or temporary deprived of parental care, by the end of 2010.

The first stage of residential school reorganization into a complex of community-based services was finished, children from the institution were integrated into mainstream community schools, the building school unit was transformed in a temporary placement centre for 25 children in difficulty. Out of 151 children who had been initially placed in Cahul boarding schhol at the beginning of the project 65 were already reintegrated with their families.

At the moment the building of a social integration centre for the young people – the graduates of the residential school, who are orphans or definitely lost the bond with their familiy, is underway. This Centre consists of 8 social apartments. In this context the projects focuses on preparing, strngthening and supporting the young graduates in their integration into society.

Day care services for children placed in the Complex and for those from the community are working giving opportunity for their resocialization and professional orientation, prevention of institutionalization and development of the services within the Complex.
An essential part of the activity has focused on preparing the staff, retaining them in the delivery of new services and holding an active and efficient campaign of promotion, advocacy and fundraising to support the reorganisation process.

Cahul institution is the first reorganised residential institution of the 68 that were registered in 2007.
