GATEKEEPING SYSTEM is a protection mechanism ensuring the child’s right to grow up in a family and safeguarding respect for children’s needs and best interest.

WHAT DOES IT OFFER?

  • a complex procedure, ensuring the prevention of child institutionalization.

WHAT ARE ITS GOALS?

  • prevent child’s separation from his/her parents and institutionalization, by providing a complex assessment of the child’s needs;
  • ensure that residential care meets the child’s best interest and the fact that it is the last resort;
  • support the development and consolidation of family type and community based services.

BENEFICIARIES:

  • children and families in difficulty;
  • the society in general.


LONG-TERM BENEFITS:

  • Decrease in the numbers of children in residential care and increase in the level and quality of the community based services;
  • Improve and consolidate community and government support offered to the parents, for them to take care and educate their own children in the family;
  • Consolidate the collaboration and communication at community level in the provision of the necessary support and assistance to children and families in difficulty.
